Prince of , Wales visited Mr. Thomas -Hardy, the veteran poet J and novelist, at -. Dorchester, to-day. After ranching -with Mr. ■>■ \ Hardy, v the Prince motored' to farms whose occupants "are his tenants. He stopped his car at Maiden Castle t saying " I think. I am 20 minutes ahead' of time," and flung . himself on a grassy slope ,hy. the wayside for a rest. But a little girl on a Shetland pony came along and , the Prince : sat up and talked to her. Ho then drove to the famous wishing well of "CJpwey, which he approached through a bower of crimson rambler and othar roses. Here in the presence of a gathering mainly composed of young women, the Prince drank 'some water from the well. Then as bidden by Mrs. Smith, the aged custodian, he threw the remainder of the-water in the glass over his loft shoulder. '. "Did you wish, sir," asked a girl from tho bevy of Tosy-faced onlookers. " No, I did not," replied the Prince. " But you should," said tho girl, adding "i wish you a happy Princess." The Prince raised his hat and smiled as he seemed to detect -a carefully prepared plot.
