MAIN HIGHWAYS SCHEME.
GROUPING THE COUNTIES. HAURAKI PLAINS VIEWS. [BV ' TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] . PAEROA. Friday The question; of the main highways scheme was raised at a conference of local bodies, held to-day, by the chairman, Mr. W. Marshall. , The proposed grouping of counties under the main highways schema was discussed, the speakers contending that the grouping of this district with the Waikato zyi King Cotmiry districts was not to the advantage of ihib area. It was considered that Fink'ey 'Thsnjen. Ha<*<raki Plains, and Obinetuuri coaKtke uhould 'm grouped with the East Coast counties, with a view to prosecuting work on the. East Coast-Auckland main road, . which should cross the Hauraki Plains, passing through Paeroa, Waihi, Tanrr.nga, and on to the East Coast. A resolution suggesting that the grouping of this district should only, include Matamata, ?iako, Ohinemui-i, Thames, Ooromandel, and Hauraki Plains counties', was passed The opinion was expressed that borough councils should have some representation on the proposed group councils,. which would be appointed to control their various districts.. Mr. Lowe (Thames Count-; moved and Mr. R. Coulter (Te Aroha borough), seconded, that borough councils should have representation on the highways boards.
