The. Takapuna Borough Council met last evening. / The Mayor, Mr. •A. M. Gould, • presided, and there were also present' Messrs. T. B. Arthur, ■; M. L. Wilkins, P. E. N. Gaudin, E. G. Tucker, J. W. .Hayden, M. E. Thompson,' and J. E. i Collins. ' " . /' The Health Department -wrote asking that a weekly report regarding plague precautions ; should .he sent,; giving particulars of measures taken to exterminate rats. It.-was decided to comply with the request as far as was possible. • The condition of the roads in the borough -was the subject of considerable dis I cussion. .It was stated ; that the ; footpaths on some of the side roads, were al- ? most impassable . as a result of the bad weather. The Mayor; said it was difficult for the council to attend to the . side roads while the main .road required so much attention. As a matter lof , economy work had to be concentrated on the main road. The foreman reported -that the maintenance of the ; main 1 road '? would - : cost about £600 more than the amount on the estimates. The discussion was adjourned to a special:; meeting of the ■i council ■on June 25 to consider road .works. ~;^
