REPOROA SETTLEMENT.
Sir,—As I was manager of the Reporoa . estate for many years I suppose that I. know, it as intimately as anyone. During my time mortality among cattle was by no means above the average of other districts. "When the estate was sold to - the Government we were carrying 2200 . cattle, including 600 breeding cows and ■ • 2800 ewes and wethers- These/ numbers i speak for themselves. .' Now upon / the '■■ whole estate there are.'. not. , above-, ,1000,' cattle and no sheep. The' consequence is that the feed has become very rank and unwholesome. This, added to inexpari- ~ enoe in some of the settlers, has caused whatever trouble there is; but, when the ... revaluation by the Government is completed and the settlers have effected a saving in the capital price? of the": land, ' probably most of the troubles will disappear.
