ACCIDENT IN GOLDMINE.

STRUCK BY STEEL DRILL. MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WAIHI, Monday. An accident of a serious nature befell William Rudd, a member of Collcdgo's party, engaged in the stope on the Mary Reef above No. 4 level at the Grand Junction mine, about 9 o'clock this morning. Rudd and his mates were in the stope hauling up cribbing timber when a steel drill about sft. overhead, to which was attached a snatch pulley, fell, striking Rudd on the back of the neck and rendering Turn unconscious. The injured man • escaped falling down the pass by the \ prompt action of Mr. Colledge in seizing him and dragging him to safety. Rudd was taken in the ambulance to the Waihi District Hospital. He regained consciousness, about 1 o'clock. Though his injuries aro serious he is expected to recover.
