BUTCHER ELECTROCUTED.
SEVERAL OTHERS INJURED.
When a number of men were removing a dead bullock at the Sydney Meat Preserving Works at Auburn recently a steel rope to which the animal was attached came in contact with an electric switch. The porcelain covering of, -_ the switch.was broken and the rope and iron, framework inside the building became heavily charged with electricity. . .. Neil Bennett, butcher. I who was ; controlling the friction winch 6ft. away, succeeded in releasing his hold, but tell against an iron guide hook suspended from an iron plate, and receiving a shock was killed. He could not be released until another employee pushed his body away from the hook with a piece of wood. Spence Edwards, who was also working a winch, received a shock, which threw him heavily to the ground. He n.'as taken to the* hospital suffering from injuries to his head and shook. As tbe steel rf>pe struck the switch Edward V. LanghiLm, who was standing outside the works, attempted to prevent it resting on the switch, hut he. was thrown backwards on to the roadway The shouts of the injured men attracted the attention of other workmen, who rendered assistance pending the arrival of the doctor. Several other men received minor shocks.
