The Hauraki Plains Countv Council met last week. , * A reference to the urgent necessity of the Lands Drainage Department completing the Maukoro Canal was made by Mr. Mayne. Settlers on the western side of the Piako River, he said, were having an anxious time. The recent heavy rains indicated there were insufficient outlets to prevent serious flooding. It was decided that a deputation from the council should proceed to Wellington at an early date in connection with various county matters. It was resolved that the erection of the county chambers at Ngatea should be proceeded with at an early date.
