TUAKAU AFFAIRS.

THE BOWLING CLUB. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] . TUAKAU. Monday. To mark the close of the season the bowling club gave a social and dance on Friday evening. The club was formed less than 12 months ago by local bowling enthusiasts, and the green was officially opened in November. As most of the members are first-year players, the club* was somewhat handicapped in its matches with outside clubs, but some keenlycontested games were played with the neighbouring ' Buckland bowlers. . The ladies were allowed the use of part of the green for a croquet i-awn, and gave valuable assistance in raising funds. In April a " Paddy's market," the success of which was due to the untiring efforts of members of the croquet club, was responsible for the raising of a considerable sum toward the cost of laying down a croquet lawn and the erection of a pavilion. During the season various trophies *were played for within the club, and presentations were made at the social' last/ Friday. A medal presented by Mr. W. :J. Taylor for the winner of the most games went to Mr. Gribble, who played 21 games, winning 16, losing two, and securing a draw in the other three. The other medal, for singles play, presented by Mr. Hardley, of Auckland, for the best season's performance, was won by Mr. Nichol, who played 17 games, with 15 wins and two ties, an unbeaten record. Messrs. . W. A. Sraeed and Patton were the winners of the pairs, and Messrs. Finch and Glasgow runners-up. In the croquet club the doubles trophy was won by ■ Mes-darnes Woolley and N*ichol, and Mrs. Hessey won the singles competition. The president of the bowling club, Mr. D. Fulton, presented the trophies to the various winners. During the evening highly-appreciated items were rendered ' by Mesdames Cole and Yaughan, Misses j riufHn and Blackweli. and Messrs. Sin- j clair, McFarlane. and Westwood, many of i whom came .from Auckland for the oc- ! casion.
