;In the second round of the amateur golf championship Quimet (United States) beat Bernard '• Darwin, three up and two to play. Up to the third round six American players have dropped out. After the defeat "of all the Australian and New Zealand competitors 'in the ladies' open : golf -V, championship, Miss Cummings . (United States), is the only formidable overseas player left.
