STOCKS AND SHARES.

The tone of the Auckland' sharemarket yesterday was firm, and there were numerous buyers for all classes of investment stocks. , In Government securities War Loans, 1930, 1938, and 1939, were wanted at £97 6s, with sellers of the first-named at £97 10s. The 1927 issue was in demand at £97 10s. Soldiers' Loan bonds were sought at £101' ss, and inscribed stock at £101 10s, but no holders quoted. N.Z. Inscribed Stock, 1929, 1938 and 1939, had buyers at £97,. the -1927 issue being . asked for ' at £97 ss, and ■ the 1927-41 issue at £95. *In debentures City of Aucklands, per cent., chsfnged hands at £98 10s. In banks New Zealands sold at 60s, with further sellers at that figure, and buyers at 59s 9d. Unions were done at £14 lis, more being ; wanted at £14>- with no further sellers. Australasias, at £13 15s, were -looked for at £13 9s. Commercials (ord.) had demand at 38s 6d, and the pref. issue was offered at £7. Nationals were wanted at £6 12s, New South Wales at £39 2s 6d, and P. and. O.'s at £14, no sellers responding. In insurances New Zealands had sale at 29s 9d, late sellers asking same price, with buyers at 29s 6d. South British were inquired for at 37s 6d, and Standards at 36s 3d. In coals West-port-Stocktons i (ord.) : sold at ss, and in gas Aucklands (paid up) were done ;at 25s 6d. In miscellaneous lines Wilsons Cements changed hands at 265, and Takapuna Trams at 21s. There was also a! sale in Dental 'and Medical Supply at 22s 6d. In mining Waihis were done at ■ 26s 9d and 26s od, late sellers- 26s 9d, buyers 265. Grand Junctions at 7s 6d, were looked for at 7s 4d. Moanataiaris were firm selling at 3s, with late 'sellers asking 3s 3d, and buyers offering *, 2s • lid. New Waiotahis were wanted at is, sellers .
