MAIL .SERVICE TO ARAPUNI.
• [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AWAMUTU. Wednesday. Local business men are interesting themselves in ''the prospects of obtaining a regular mail service to Arapuni, the site of -the now hydro-electric works ■ on the Wsrikato River, some 23 miles from To ■ Awamutu.' The road is considered to be in very fair condition, and a motor mail Eervico could be maintained all the year round. Te Awamutu is en fete this week, the carnival arranged to raise funds " for new swimming baths being in progress. On Monday evening a "night out" was held in Victoria Park, all sorts of novelty competitions, side-shows, dancing on the green, etc., being conducted. The proceeds were well over £110. Last night a jazz cabaret was opened in the Town Hall, and this also proved very successful. The carnival ends next* Saturday with a monster gala day and procession , of decorated cars, vehicles, and animals, . with sports events in Albert Park. The householders' meeting art Te Kawa decided to again make a strong representation to the Board of Education with a view to having the school there conducted as a full-time one,_ the present restricted system being quite inadequate.
