IDLE LANDS.
Sir, —A contributor in the Herald of I April 27 states under the heading of! "Farm Values":—"lt is a regrettable fact that when people in England who desire to settle in New Zealand make inquiries regarding the possibilities of obtaining holdings in this country they are told that no land is available."* Well, I for one, have been looking out for a section of land for the last 18 months, and I think that warning absolutely necessary. As regards Crown land I must refer your, correspondent to the Crown land guide corrected up to October last, and I do not think he will see anything thftre worth taking up. I expect land will be available for settlers in the near future, as something will have to be done, but in th'e meantime I think it only fair to warn the 4 intending immigrant, indeed they have been warned by the ones who j have returned. A. C. M. Hoskyn".
