MEDALS WRONGLY ISSUED

~ A case was called at the Christchurch Magistrate's Court in which th© Defence Department proceeded against a man (who had been called ,'< up for military service, but had not been to the front) for the return of war medals issued in error to him. .",'■ For the department Mr. A. T. Donnellv asked for the withdrawal of the case, He said that when the man was asked about the medals he said that he had lost them. ;\Vhen/asked to make a statutory declaration he refused, • and it was only when the legal aspect of the matter was pointed out that he agreed to make the declaration. Mr. Donnelly added that the department wished to make it clear that medahrigsued in error were the property of the department, and must be returned when asked for. . .' "
