— , —<»— — . EIGHTEEN SECTIONS OPENED. Eighteen sections of the Birdwood block, near Swanson, have . now . been opened for selection as fruit and. poultry farms. The sections are described as first-class land, the average area being about 15 acres. Thirteen sections are In good grass, while three are for the most part- ploughed, and two have been cleared, but not ploughed. The capital values range from £105 to £460, and the : half-yearly. rent, from £2 12s to £11 10s .(occupation with right of purchase), and £2 2s to £9 4s (renewable lease). Applications are hot confined to * returned soldiers, ■ but- first preference will be given to them 'at : the ballot, and secondly- to landless applicants who have one or more children dependent upon them, or who have within fthe past two years applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully.
