SLUMP IN THE MARK.
GERMANS CANNOT EXPLAIN. GROWING NOTE CIRCULATION A. and N.Z. BERLIN. April 19. The sudden break in the exchange on London is not easy to explain. At one time the exchange rate reached to 150,000 marks to the pound, but later recovered to 138,000. The Reichsbank returns showcontinued expansion of note circulation. The bank, in consequence of this, has a gigantic task to maintain the exchange by means of gold placed with foreign banks.
