WELFARE OF THE BLIND.
COMMISSION OF INQUIRY. SITTINGS IN AUCKLAND. The initial sitting of the - commission appointed by the Government to inquire into the condition of the blind of the Dominion was held . yesterday- at the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Parnell.Mr. John Caughley, Director of Education, presided, and there "were also present: Messrs. Clutha Mackenzie, B. N. Nolan, and J. W. Tibbs. It was decided that the sittings be not open to the press. The day, was devoted to preliminary work, _ connected with the collation, of statistics and determination as 'to the general direction which, the commission's inquiries. shall take. It was decided to hold a sitting in Wellington on May 2 for the hearing of witnesses.
■ Evidence will be taken this morning and continued next week.
