NEW BUTTER OUTLET.
SHORTAGE IN AUSTRALIA. [BY TELEGRAPH.-—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] "',. WELLINGTON. Friday. Local butter exporters, in view of the decline in prices on the English market, are taking special interest in Australian market conditions. Melbourne quotations in ; particular have shown rapid advance. A recent rise of 9s per cwt. has brought the, wholesale rate of choicest butter to 224s per cwt., or 2s lb. In Australia the \ production has f fallen off so seriously that there is barely sufficient choice butter available for home needs, >: and Queensland is the only State with an exportable surplus, but as there as generally a tendency to force prices unduly high against the other States, some Victorian buyers have patronised New - Zealand in preference to the north, and business is believed here to be capable of considerable expansion unless, as has happened before, Queensland holders moderate their demands.
