THE OTIRA TUNNEL.
CARRIAGE OF TIMBER. TIME NOT YET ARRIVED. [BY TELEGRAPH.PKESS ASSOCIATION.] HOKITIKA. Friday. The Minister for Public Works, Hon. J. G. Coates, replying to an inquiry by the Wes'tland Chamber of Commerce, states that he is unable to arrange for the early transport of timber, etc., through the Otira tunnel owing to the contractors requiring the uninterrupted use of the tunnel in conection with completing their work. The Railway Department also has a large amount of gear to be taken through. In addition, there is a quantity of signal equipment to be erected in the tunnel. The carriage of timber, etc., will be commenced as soon as he can arrange it without delaying the completion of the tunnel and the attendant works. ■'■■. * > / /'.]S*
