THE PUBLIC HEALTH.
OTAGO AND SOUTHLAND. "The public health in Otago and Southland is good," said Dr. McKibbon in response to an inquiry recently. "We have had a very light year. We usually get diphtheria commencing about now and reaching its maximum in May, June, and July. Such a visitation is seasonal, and not peculiar to Otago or New Zealand. It is the experience in. England in the corresponding months of early winter. The trouble varies in intensity from year to year, and, although it seems to be already commencing, it is only what might be expected, and there is no evidence that it will be bad."
