SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION* EASTER TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED RODNEY RETAINS SHIELD. The Easter tournament played under the auspices of the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association was concluded at the Domain yesterday. Rain overnight and in the early morning soriously affected the wickets. The wicket on which the Auckland-Wellington match was played was soft and slow, but under the influence of a hot sun proved tricky, and was in favour of the bowlers. Auckland won the toss, and compiled a total of 153, Cox being the principal contributor with 33. . , . , . Wellington opened on a tricky wicket, and were disposed of for a total. of 108, to which E. Renner (30) and Ersk.me (27) were the chief contributors. ... , Kerr was the most successful bowler tor Auckland, securing five wickets for 52 runs. The match resulted in a win for Auckland on the first innings by 49 runs. The match between Rodney and Franklin, for the Walker Shield, was played on No. 2 wicket, and resulted in an easy win for Rodney by 137 runs; Rodney thus retains the shield. Rodney had first strike and compiled the total of 225 runs, A. R. Dunning contributing 119 by sound cricket, scoring freely all round the wicket. Dr. Howden was the most successful bowler, securing three wickets for 13 runs. Franklin made a poor start on the first innings, and the whole side was disposed of for a total of 88 runs. Dr. Howden, not out 32, playing a solid innings. W. Dunning was the most successful bowler, securing five wickets for 84 runs. In presenting the shield Dr. -Howden congratulated the team on winning the trophy for two years in succession; he also presented the bat to W. Dunning, of the Rodney team, for the best exhibition of fielding in the tournament. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTOHUROH, Monday., The boys' cricket matches which were commenced here on Saturday, were concluded to-day. In the under 18 years grade, Wellington Boys League had a one-wicket win over the Canterbury Cricket Association's team, and in the under 16 grade,' Canterbury won by nine wickets. The latter victory carried with it the New Zealand Challenge Shield, which has now been won by the Canterbury Association for two years in succession.
