' In an action whioh was heard this week the Ettlermans Wilson Line, Ltd., sought to limit their liability for a collision 'between the steamer Marengo and the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Bemuera. " The casualty, which caused serious 1 ' damage to both vessels, occurred on July--21. : 1922, in* the | English Channel,; when 1 the Marengo (6301 tons gross) i was on a" voyage from New York to Hull with a general cargo, and the Bemuera (11,276 tons gross) was bound from Southampton to New Zealand with general cargo and 544 passengers. There was no loss of life. On October 27, 1922, Mr. Justice Hill pronounced both vessels ■in fault, but he apportioned the blame as, to two-thirds, to the Marengo and as to the remaining onethird to the Bemuejß, . j "•' "•' ; /, : ;/ z The registered tonnage of the Marengo* calculated in accordance with the provisions' of the Merchant Shipping Acts, is 6116 tons, and the plaintiffs therefore claimed to limit : their - liability; to £48,935 16s, lOd,the aggregate amount of '£8 a ton, 1 ! with interest. . *' ■- , ■ The president of the Admiralty Division.
