TRAM DESTINATION SIGNS.
Sir, notice that at last the, tramways department is adopting destination signs for our trams, at a cost of between £6000 and £7000. To me it is most remarkable that neither car Mayor nor any of the other prominent citizens who have taken trips abroad to study civic conveniences seem to have taken notice of the system employed by that benighted body, the London County Council. In London, all trams on any particular route are the same colour, and. all motor-bus routes are known by a specific . number. It is quite understandable that in our sity ,owing to shortage of rolling stock, cars have to be diverted from the regular runs during rush hours and on holidays, but if the route number system were adopted this could quite easily be overcome by haying spare number plates at the despatched box at the city terminus. lam sure our city fathers, who are keen on conserving the ratepayers' money, would register a very pronounced kick at having to pay anywhere near £1000 for haying a number placed on either end of our 150 cars. Okb or the Owners.
