PROTEST FROM MOTORISTS.
[BY TELEGRAPH, —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] * OHKISTOHURCH. Thursday. At a meeting of the Canterbury Automobile Association, arising cut of thrt delegates' reports on the quarterly general meeting of. the South Island Motor Union, it was decided to support tho protest made by the union against poster advertising on bridges and at beauty spots in the country. The council further agreed to write to the Tourist Depart- - ment asking for assistance in having the practice put down. : . Mr. Johnston said the advertising nuisance had been particularly noticeable in Marlborough, where rocks, trees, bridges, etc., had been plastered with notices advertising motor oils, petrol, and tyres. • Mr. Macartney said that the painting of bridges in any other colour but white was directly against the policy of tha association, which wHs endeavouring to have all bridges painted white as a safety measure.
