THE RUGBY GAME.
AUCKLAND UNION DECISIONS
SEASON OPENS ON APRIL 23.
The annual meeting of the Auckland Rugby Union was held last evening, the president, Mr. J. Arneil, occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of delegates. The annual report and balance-sheet were published in the Hebalp on March 1. It was decided to recommend the Management Committee to consider the question off holding an athletic championship meeting of footballers at the end of the season. The retiring hon. treasurer, Mr. A. Baylisa, was granted an honorarium of £50, and tho secretary of the Junior Advisory Board. Mr. A. Don, £25. The matter of a benefit match to Mr. "Bob" Whiteside, the old Auckland representative, was left in the hands of the Management Committee to arrange. The trophies won during the season were presented to the following clubs:—Silver football for aggregate points, Ponsonby; Whiltom Shield, Ponaonby: White liorso ip, Ponsonby; Pagni Cup (first juniors), Grafton; Maurice Connor Challenge Cup, Grafton; Charity Challenge Cup (senior championship), Grammar Old Boys; Grammar Old Boys also won the Gallager Memorial Shield, which will be presented later. It was reported that the Management Committee had decided to open the season on Saturday, April 28. The following officers were elected: Patrob, the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe; president, Mr. J. Arneil; vice-presi-dents. Messrs. J. H. Gunson (Mayor of Auckland), T. Aitken, P. R. Eraser, M. J. Sheahan, .F. J. Ohlson, A. Twinane; secretary, Mr. T. W. Maben; honorary treasurer, Mr. W. F. Allen (pro tem.); committee of management, Messrs. H. Frost. J. O'Brien, W. A. Gary, A. St. C. Belcher, N. R. Jones. C. W. Oram. W. Moore, and G. Nicholson; honorary auditors, Mr. T. Macky and Mr. A. Bay.liss; honorary pfficial country adviser, Mr. T. H. Patterson; , honorary solicitor, Mr. J. F. Conlan; honorary press representative, Mr. T. Buchanan; honorary surgeons, Drs. A. Esidell Moore, P. Moir, T. H. Pettit, E. Williams. H. C. Bennett. J. R. Cross, E. B. Gunson. W. K. MacCormick, H. O'Connor, J. Reid, and A. T. Begg. The following were elected life members: — Messrs. J. Arneil, G. H. Dixon. C. E. MacCormick, T. Henderson, F. S. Murray, M. J. .Sheahan. C. V, Langsford. F. J. Ohlson, A. Twiname, P. McElwain, A. Bayliss, G. Nicholson, and A. Tilly. A motion that three selectors be appointed, in. lieu of a sole selector, was lost, and it was decided to adhere to the sole selector. Mr. V. R. Meredith was appointed. to the office.
COLLEGE RIFLES CLUB. The annual meeting of the College Rifles Football Club was presided over by Mr. W. F. Stilwell. The report and balancesheet showed a substantial credit balance. The number of recruits makes the prospects for the coming season exceptionally good. Col. L. H. Dawson was re-elected patron, Mr. W. F. Stilwell president, and Mr. W. Laxon club captain. The other officers were elected as follows:—Honorary secretary, Mr. Grayton Whitaker; assistanthonorary secretary, Mr. A. Nicholson; honorary treasurer, Mr. L. Wynyard; management committee, Messrs. Grierson, Muir» Watson, Taylor, Clapham, Sommerville and Nicholson.
