BONAR LAW'S MINISTRY

MR. CHAMBERLAIN CRITICAL.

LACK OF CLEAR POLICY.

(Received 5.30 p.m.! A. and N.Z. LONDON. March 19. Mr. Austen Chamberlain, Conservative M.P. for Birmingham West, who was a member of Mr. Lloyd George's Cabinet, speaking in his constituency, said that the hope had been expressed that he might soon rejoin the Cabinet. He did not desire to obtrude himself where he was not wanted, and there was no reason to suppose that the Cabinet desired his presence. Frankly, he believed that they were right. He recognised that the meeting at the Carlton Club decided upon an experiment which he thought mistaken. Even now his opinion was not changed. If anybody thought that the tranquility of 'the world could be secured merely by a change of Government, the incidents of the last few months had disillusioned them. Ho desired the present Government to continue in office and to find a satisfactory solution of some of the current problems, but the Government unfortunately was suffering from the lack of a clearlydefined policy in various spheres.
