NOTES BY PIOADOR. . i At * meeting of the board of -the New Zealand Trotting Association, held in Christchurch last week, a letter was received from Mr. A, T. Donnelly, on behalf of P. Johnston, of Sydney, asking .if the board would deal with the application he had made four months ago, that . Johnson should be permitted to dispose of hie horses.. on condition that he gave an underttJang to take no further part in trotting. It was decided to reply that the matter waa sua under consideration. The well-known owner-trainer Free Holmes was evidently aggrieved at the way the Timaru Trotting Club's handicapner assessed his imported horse, Rey De . Oro, for, he wrote to the Trotting , Association bringing under the board's notice the fact that the club's official had departed from the custom of handicapping all maiden horses on the limit, by placing Key De Oro 48yds. behind scratch. The board decided to acknowledge receipt of the letter, and to reply that the matter was on* for the club to deal; with. Argus has been placed on a. 4m 33s mark in the Belfast Handicap, to be decided on the opening day of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Easter Meeting. Mr. Edwards handicapped him on 4m 30s on the second day of the recent Otahuhu Meeting, but the Australian-bred p*cer declined nis engagement. His best time " for two miles is 4m 41 2-ss, which was put up on a dead track. That good colt A.oron filled the role of runner-up to Tiiraire in the Timaru Handicap, and this form points to him being in good racing condition. He should strip in capital fettle for his engagements in the New Zealand Champion Stakes at Easter time, when one of his most dangerous opponents will be Ahuriri, a half-brother to Taraire. ■•'.**' Tarairo added another success .to his record by leading the field home in the Timaru Handicap, the principal event at the Timaru Trotting Club's ; Meeting on Saturday last. The roan gelding has performed fairly consistently this season., and is now well repaying Mr. R. M. Morton for sticking to him. Two Australian-bred horses in' Box Seat end Snowshoe figure as tho backrnarkers in the Easter Handicap, the principal event on the opening day of th© New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Ckib's Easter Meeting. They are handicapped 72yds. behind scratch, or on a 4m 27b mark. The two-year-old gelding by Nelson Bingen and out of Norice. therefore a full brother to Native King and Nelson Derby, has been named Nelson Fame. He is owned by the Palmerstoa North sportsman Mr. G. Craw, and is doing steady worn on his owner's private track at Linton. The Southern writer, Templar," states that Mr. J. R. Corrigan intends racing Man-o'-3Var in the big harness event at the Waimate Plains Trotting Club's meeting. The presence of the crack pacer should be an added attraction to the gathering. .

Thexendale, who contested several of the big events in Auckland last season, :is reported to be in work again at Aldington, after having indulged in a long, holiday, during which he built up a lot. If Thexendale The three-year-old trotter, Audominion, who finished third behind Young Blake and Nelson's Guest in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at the Forbury Park summer meeting, has been turned out for a Spell, and is unlikely to race again this season.

Dixie Mac. a recent importation from Australia, made his first public appearance in New Zealand at th» Timaru Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday last and notched third place in tha Fairhe Handicap. He should do better later on. Mr Brinkman is not taking any liberties with' Happy Voyage, and has placed • the crack pacer on 9Cyds. behind scratch in the Flying Handicap, one mile, which is open to horses that have done 2m 14s or better.
