[BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MATAMATA, Tuesday. " How do you expect the Germans to pay reparations if you won't trade with 1 them ?" asked a questioner of Sir Joseph ! Ward at Matamata last evening. " How i do you expect them to pay if they have ino money?" "You go and ask the j Kaiser. He will tell you," the candidate ! retorted. Sir Joseph Ward added that j the French were in the Ruhr Valley try- | ing to get reparations, while Britain was | standing by. * " I am in sympathy with France," he concluded.
