SMITH DEFEATS NEWMAN.

A. and N.Z. LONDON, March. 18. The final billiard match of five games of 16,000 up between Newman and Smith reached a very exciting conclusion. It commenced with Smith 130 ahead on the aggregate, and was a ding-dong struggle throughout, with some magnificent breaks. In one session Smith averaged 195 and Newman 192. On Friday the players led alternately, and play closed with Smith, in play. 14,667, Newman 14,091, the best breaks" being Newman 480, 462, and 404, Smith 533, 485. and 442. On Saturday Smith ran out when his opponent's score was 15,208, Smith thus winning the final game by 792 and the whole match by 922
