LONDON HOTEL HOURS.
PROPOSAL FOR EXTENSION.
BISHOP'S VEHEMENT ATTACK
A. and N.Z. LONDON. March 13. The Bishop of London, speaking at the Mansion House, said he had been told that the closing of public bouses at Whitechapel at 10 p.m. instead of 11 p.m. had made all the difference between heaven and hell, yet it was proposed in the House of Lords that the closing hour should be 11 p.m. throughout London. He had never heard of a more monstrous proposal. The proposer knew nothing about the effects, and did not realise, what difference it would make in the East End. " I will die on the doorsteps of the House of Lords before I will allow so iniquitous a proposal to become law," added the bishop.
