SEASON'S FIXTURES.

fearch 31. April N.Z. Metropolitan T.C. Autumn. April 2— Waimato Plains T.C. Annual. April 12 and 14—New Brighton T.C. Autumn. April 21 and 25—Auckland Trotting Club. April 26—Cambridge Trotting Club. ' May o— Ihumea T.C. Annual.

NOTES BY PICADOR. That good trotter, Al Mack, has been slightly sore, and consequently he is not likely to be seen in action at tho Northland Trotting Club's meeting at YVhangarei tomorrow Golden Park is an unlucky little mare, and recently met with a slight mishap, which necessitated her being placed out of commissionWillie Logan, who carried off the Trial Handicap at tho Marlborough Trotting Clubs meeting, is a three-year-old gelding by tho successful sire Logan Pointer out of a mare by Croesus. He was handicapped to go four minutes, but bv covering tho distance in 3ni 36 2-5s clipped 23' 2-5s off his handicap tune. Holly Boy was very favourably handicapped in the W'.Uerlea Handicap on the opening day o, the Marlborough meeting, being placed on a 3m 50s mark for a mile and a-half, and was not penalised for his win on the concluding day of the Nelson Jockey Club's meeting, where he won the Matai Trot Handicap, two miles, in lm 51s. which i.s equal to 3m 10s for a mile and a-half. He duly won. Excellent nominations have been received by the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club for tho various events to be decided at its Easter meeting. Among those engaged are the Auckland horses First Carbine, Moneymaker, Argus, and Enid. Information received from the South states that, after working on Wednesday last. Reta Peter was showing symptoms of the trouble in the hind leg that caused her to be thrown out of work on the eve of the last New Zealand Trotting Cup'. It is to be hoped that the trouble will not necessitate her going into retirement a?ain. The Waimate Plains Trotting Club has received excellent nominations for its annual meeting, which is to be held on the Hawera racecourse on Easter Monday. Auckland horses figure prominently in the list of entries, and that would point to local stables being well represented nt, the fixture. Mr. F. C. Thomas will declare the handicaps on Tuesday next. # The Hastings sportsman. Mr. H. Jones, made a profitable investment when he) purchased Lady Nan for 290gns at the .-ale of tho late B. Shadbolt's horses, for lie won a race with her nt Wangnnui and then sold her to Mr. Mitchell, of Palrnerston North, for £500. It is reported that Nelson Bell, who was expected to race prominently at the Wellington and Palrnerston meetings, but failed to accomplish anything, is fast developing into a class trotter, and he should make amends later onAnother Australian trotter arrived in the Dominion last week, and ho is to go into B. Jarden's stable. So far there are no particulars to hand regarding him. Andrew Bryce got away to Whangarei last night with the crack pacer Man-o'-War. who i.= to give an exhibition over a mile and a-ha|t at the Northland Trotting Club's meeting to-morrow. It transpires that the name, of the American trotter who accompanied Earl Harvester and Judge Hancock to the Dominion is The Triumph, and he has been nominated for events to be decided st the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club's Easter Meeting. Free Holmes' imported horse. Roy d'Oro figures among the list of entrants for the Easter meeting at Addington.

HANDICAPPING TROTTERS. To the Sporting Editor. Vbr.— I have watched with interest thi» controversy between owners and handicapper, and as a close follower of the sport, my sympathy is with the horse owner. Although I don't profess to make a close study of tho question, the following incidents are quite sufficient to prove that there is much room for complaint. At the Otahuhu T.C. Spring Meeting, in a 4.48 class, Promenade was 120 yds. behind, and at, the same club's summer meeting only GOyds. bhd, in the same class—-let, up ssec. Bonnie Jean A. ran second at, Christmas A.T.C. Meeting, in 3.44, and was handicapped ,at the next O.T.C. meeting on 3.49, or let up ssec. Timbell, 3.57 spring, and 3.53 at summer meeting, or let up 4sec. Bellova was handicapped on limit in 3.10 class at O.T.C. Spring Mooting, -.nd was put 12 bhd. in a 3.39 class at O.T.C. Summer Meeting, with no placed performance in between, and as inconsistency is the bone of contention, I think the foregoing instances are sufficient in themselves to cause an argument. J. W. Phillips. Ponsonby, March 12, 1923.
