MILLION TINS OF MEAT.
CONTRACT PLACED ABROAD.
LONDON, March 3. Why a contract for a million tins of meat went to tho United States instead of to Australia and New Zealand the j War Office refuses to tell. The officer in charge of the contract | informed an Australian press representa- j tive several months ago that Australia's and New .Zealand's claims would be warmly considered. The quality of the Admiralty's experimental supplies, it was said, was satisfactory. The War Office also declines to state the price of the American tender.
