FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

DECREASE IN EXPORTS.

MUTTON AND LAMB SHORTAGE.

far TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION^ WELLINGTON. Tuesa*y. The New Zealand Meat Producers' Board publishes ; figures showing monthly exports of beef, mutton, and lamb from New Zealand for the current season to February 28, compared with quantities exported during the same months of the previous season. These figures reveal a most satisfactory position, and .indicate more regularity in monthly shipments than in thei previous season. From particulars of stocks on -hand and monthly killings, which are also supplied ' indications are that the shipment of normal quantities each month will be maintained, a most important factor in relation to a continuance of satisfactory prices. There is every indication that thei Dominion's killings in mutton and lamb will be considerably less than last season.. The shortage in mutton will probablv be over 750,000 carcases. The number "of lambs at present coming forward, especially in j the North Island, has slackened off' considerably, and unless weather conditions improve the total figures this season will be much less than last. Killings of beef this season to the end of February are ahead of. la. t. season. On . February 28 this season the total Quantity of beef, mutton and lamb held UU*,°.f a ln the Domir, ion amounted to 67Z.715 carcases, whereas at the same date last year we held in store 1,965 463 freight carcases. At the commencement of this season we had in store only 34 150 freight carcases of the previous season's meat, whereas at the commencement of last season we held 950 626 freight carcases. From these figures it will be seen that we shall ship from the Dominion this, season considerably less than last season, which should have a strengthening effect on the market at Home.
