CARNIVAL TUG-OF-WAR.
A first prize of £35 and a second of £15 for the carnival tug-of-war is advertised in to-day's Herald. Teams are to consist of six men, with one emergency and a captain, and not more than eight teams will be entered, the entrance fee being £1. Teams should therefore make their entry early. The preliminary rounds will be pulled in the Domain on Thursday morning, March 22, leaving the semi-finals and. finals to be pulled in the Town Hal! on Friday, March 23. Nominations will close next Tuesday. Further particulars can bo obtained from the Camiva] Office, 154, Queen Street.

For 26 years Ngaruawahia Regatta has been.a unique attraction on St. Patrick's Dav- Maori pois and hakas, big_ canoe and canoe hurdle races, a host _of sideshows, rowing races, and Highland dancing have drawn tens of thousands annually to the pleasantest picnic ground in the province, where tie Waipa River meets the Waikato. This year's regatta, on Saturday March 17, will prove once more that this' combination of an old English fair and an ancient Maori gathering more than ever deserves the verdict "There is nothing like it in the Dominion."
