RARE BUTTERFLY SPECIES.
DISCOVERED ON MOUNT COOK. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION ] TIMARU. Monday. During a stay at Mount Cook, Dr. Tillyard, entomologist to the Cawthron Institute, Nelson, climbed to Sealey Lake, at an altitude of 4500 ft., and there discovered numerous specimens of the " erebiola butleri " butterfly. The species is extremely rare, its only habitation previously known being the' Bald Peak at the head of Lake Wakatipu. » . Dr. Tillyard secured several excellent specimens. He was astonished to fine! them on Mount Cook at this time of the year. The discovery is of great importance to scientists.
