YOUTH FOUND DROWNED.
EVIDENCE AT THE INQUEST. An inquiry into the circumstances of the death of Colin Henry Trott, a clerk, aged 16, whoso body was found in the harbour off Campbell's Point on Thursday afternoon, was opened yesterday by the coroner, Mr. J. W. Poynton, B.M. The body had apparently been in the water for a considerable time. Deceased's father, William Francis Trott, machinist, residing at Alpha Road, Parnell, said that his son was a clerk in the employ of the Auckland City Council, and had been on holiday. He had been camping with other boys at Waiheke, and when the camp broke up he came home. He told witness he intended to go away for a few days. Witness last saw him alive on the morning of February 27. When he did not return as expected, inquiries were made from the boy that he was to go with on his second camping, but this boy had not gone away and knew nothing of deceased's whereabouts. Deceased was generally in good health and he could swim. Thomas Mortimer, a retired railway ganger, residing at Parnell, said that when fishing off Campbell's Point he saw the body floating in the water. He threw a fishing line over it and pulled it ashore. The inquiry was adjourned till next Tuesday. *
