NOTES AND COMMENTS. Ideal weather prevailed for the B™wnby Cruising Club's annual regatta last Saturday. Well over 100 entries were received for the various events, and with .exception of the launch race, nearly all the yachts that had been entered faced she starter. Of the 16 boats handicapped in the race for launches 10 took part in the . event, which must be regarded as satisfactory in view of the present tendency, of owners to go in more for cruising than racing, Tf.e event was won by the Kermath, owned by Mr. C. E. Mackie. ... . ', , The direction of the wind—couth-south-west—enabled the open boats: to lay ngbt round the course, while the larger classes had only a little windward work on the return from Eangitoto Channel to the Kesilution buoy, the remainder of the course being sailed with eased sheets. Had the smaller classes been sent down the harbour first i instead of up they would have had a beat from the Sulphur Bay mark to the Watchman which would have made .the racing more interesting, and certainly would have given the scratch boats an opportunity to work off their handicap. When it came,to finishing the smaller classes and the larger yachts crossed the line at the same time -in' the opposite direction, which is not at all advisable, and could have been avoided had the open boats been started the same way as the keel and centreboard yachts. t The well-known 14ft. one-design boat Desert Gold, winner of the Sanders Cup in 1922. changed hands last week, her new owner being Mr. T. G. Parker, of Stanley Bnv. The launch Rosyth 11. returned from & fortnight's cruise on Sunday. Leaving Auckland on February 17. she proceeded \*o Knwaii and., on the following day left for Russell at 6 a.m., where s she arrived at 8 p.m. ■':■-. Several days were spent at the Bav of Wands, after which the launch left on the return journey down the coast, calls being made at Dee" Water Cove. Whan7amumu, Tujekak*. Whangarei, and Kawau. Aft«r leaving ;. Kawau the Rosyth visited Mnl>i"-att<*i. v F«i>.rl<i and Wsrkworth. Some ...good hauls of fish were secured at Russell. -, The vice-presidents and trophy donors of ♦Hp Victor,'" CruWne Club were entertained by the club last Sunday. The function took the form of n picnic at Pine Island, and was largely attended.
