'VARSITY BOAT RACE.

RIVAL EIGHTS COMPARED.

LONDON, Feb. 25. The crews for the University boat race have been chosen as follows: — Oxford.—Mallam (bow). Wace (2), Irvine (3), Kane (4), Mower (5), Pedder (6). Milling (7), Me'Jlen (stroke), and Clappcrton (coxswain). The crew, which averages in weight just over 12st Sib, includes four old Blues. Mellen, who is stroke, land Kane are both AmericansCambridge. Smith (bow), Law (2), Craig (3), Heap (4), Ivory (5), Collet 16). Morrison (7), Sanders (stroke), and Balfour (coxswain) The average weight is just over 12st 81b. There are three, old Blues in the crew.

Oxford's is the most promising crew since 1914, showing steadiness and cohesion, and it promises to develop life and dash. It is likely to be a fast combination.

Cambridge shapes like a crew of possibilities, but hardly equals the standard of 1922. The four stern oars are sound, but their failing is the lack of lit* throughout "the crew. A change of the practice venue will, it is hoped, counteract thus. •■ .
