INTERPROVINCIAL FOURS.
The annual fours championship for the Interprovincial Challenge Cup at Wellington provided a very interesting race. Nelson. Wellington, Canterbury, Marlborough, and Auckland were represented. The distance was 1} miles. The Canterbury crew proved victorious. ; % At the mile post Canterbury were leading by two lengths from Marlborough, with Auckland fast closing on Wellington, and Kelson lying last. Half a mile from the finishing post, Canterbury held the advantage by three lengths from Marlborough, Auckland being two lengths behind, third. From then on Auckland gradually closed on the leaders, passing Marlborough a quarter of a mile from home, and getting within three lengths of the Canterbury crew. Marlborough was a length away, third, with Wellington fourth. Although rowing under difficulties through an accident to the bow thole early in the' race, Auckland crew pin up a great race. Though handicapped, they overhauled all their rivals from start to finish, and got to within three lengths of the winners. Auckland was represented by T. F. By an (West End), stroke- J. R. Skinner (West End). No. 3: T. Johnson (Waitemata). No. 2: E. Marshall (St. Georges), bow: and Bay Collins (West End), cox.
