SEVENTH SUDDEN DEATH.
FAMILY'S TRAGIC RECORD. GIRL DIES AT DENTIST'S. Emily Brimicombe, the young woman who died under an anaesthetic in a dentist's room in Christchurch last week, was the seventh member of her family to meet death suddenly. One aunt died under chloroform, - another succumbed in the street, a third died while being lifted out of bed, and three uncles died suddenly. This evidence was given at the inquest held by the coroner, Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., who. after hearing the evidence of the dentist, Albert Ernest Higgins, and Dr. F. J. Borrie, who administered the anaesthetic, adjourned the inquest and ordered that a post-mortem examination be made. . Albert Ernest Higgins, dentist,, of Colombo Street, Sydenham, said the deceased was to have all her teeth, about 25, extracted. He did not discuss the case with Dr. Borrie, except to say that she was apparently in good, health,, though her mouth was in a septic con-" dition. He told the doctor tho operation would take about 10 minutes. The patient was examined by Dr. Borrie, but witness did not hear the conversation. About 17 teeth had been extracted when deceased showed signs of regaining consciousness, and more anaesthetic had to be administered. : Two more teeth had been extracted when the doctor said that ' respiration .. had ceased. , Artificial methods of restoring . respiration . were , tried for about three-quarters of an boor. Dr. Borrie said that 'the anaesthetic used was chloroform., He found -nothing wrong with deceased when he examined her, and, in reply to a question, she said that, she had had no illnesses. "V; < The Coroner: It has been stated that : she had suffered from pneumonia and pleurisy. Is that surprising? v ' '•■'•• -VWitness: I did not hear that until afterwards.
