COTTON PRICES RISING.
DEMAND OUTSTRIPS SUPPLY Australian and N.Z. ('able Association. (Reed. 4.17 p.m.) NEW YORK, Feb. 25. A sensational rise in the price of cotton • on the New Orleans market in the last fortnight has brought middling to 29.37 cents, with prospects that the price will continue to increase. The rise is due to the growth of consumption .of American, British and Japanese mills and the decline of the supply. It is expected that an increased acreage -will be planted this ; year, the winter weather throughout the j South being favourable. Rains and frosts j are breaking-up the ground for early planting, and give hope of a decrease in the number of hibernating boll weevils.
