The French authorities seized 15,000,000,000 marks on the Berlin-Cologne; ; express within the occupied area. It is j believed that the money was intended ! for the payment of Ruhr strikers, but the Germans' that it was intended for the j British soldiers in Cologne. j A raid was carried out on the Bochuin i Chamber of Commerce with the object of throwing light upon the organisation , of German methods of commercial resist- : ance. J Th© stations at Heme, Bochum, Ntfrth ' Weimar, and Dalhauson havo been occupied by French troops, and the German staffs dismissed. Four hundred French railway men have voluntarily left Bordeaux for the Ruhr. Forty thousand tons of coal have been' seized and conveyed to Weddau in the last fortnight. BRITISH LABOUR DIVIDED. ! The Morning Post states that a split in the Labour Party is developing in connection with the Ruhr situation. Officially the Independent Labour Party supports j Germany. Its organs, the New Leader I and the New Statesman, for weeks have j been denouncing Franc© violently. Com- j munists similarly are denouncing France, i but The Forward, which is the Glasgow j Socialist organ, is now protesting against ! anti-French bellicosity, and is urging that j it is an incitement to war with, the people , of France. Some Communist organs are also denouncing the anti-French move- . ment as 111© work of warmongers, who i should be expelled from the working class ' movement. . The New Leader advocates a world I conference, but admits that it is doubtful ! ! if France would attend, as it would rej suit in France being put in the dock before a world tribunal. j before a world tribunal. MEDIATION BY HOLLAND. SUGGESTION IN GERMANY. A. and N.Z. PARIS. Feb. 25. A telegram to Le Journal from Frankfort says that Germany is seeking mediation regarding the Ruhr. It is stated "that Dr. Van Karnebeek, the Dutch Foreign Minister, is acceptable to the Reich as a mediator. There is a likelihood of a change of Government in Germany, Prince Max, of Baden, being mentioned as a possible successor to Herr Cuno.
