MR. CHEESEMAN'S RECORD. PRESENTATION OF ADDRESS. • " This report Is of a jubilee character," said Mr. J. H. As president of the institute,/ Mr. Gunson said the council would be unappreciative of a great service if the .occasion passed unnoticed. I They owed - Mr, Cheeseman a lasting debt of gratitude. They gloried in his work and were proud that he was still spared to carry on the: great work to which he first set his hand 50, years ago. " An illuminated address was in course of preparation, and by reading its text, he asked Mr. Cheeseman to accept its presentation. (Applause.) A jubilee bonus cheque for £100 was also presented. V Professor J. C. Johnson also spoke in eulogy of Mr. Cheeseman. > 1 ■•••" • In returning thanks, Mr. Cheeseman said he experienced a feeling of loneliness, as if he, were standing < in-another : generation, when he looked back on the I past 50 years. No member of the council which appointed ; him, or of several , successive councils, was now alive. He was pleased, however, that just as the .councils of 40 and 50 years ago were satisfied with; his services, the . present council held similar views toward him. His botanical labours had been hard, slow and difficult, but he had been amply repaid for . all the , trouble. iv (Applause ).
