A deluge of rain last night caused the Waiohine River to overflow the stop-bank and the road between Carterton and Greytown became impassable. Settlers' houses at Ahiakouka were surrounded, and paddocks were inundated. Heavy rain caused.' several washouts. The water is 3ft. deep over the road at Mangarama, and , traffic is blocked at Tano. The chairman and four members of the Tararua Power Board were unable to get to the meeting at Eketahuna owing to washouts. ;
