FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
HEAVY RAIN IN MANAWATU. [by telegraph.—press association.] PALMERSTON NORTH. Saturday. A heavy downpour was experienced in Palmerston North this morning. Qne and a-half inches fell in a little over an hour. Parts of the Square were flooded, but no material damage ■was recorded. RIVER OVERFLOWS BANKS. FARM LANDS UNDER WATER. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] .. CARTERTON, Saturday. A deluge of rain last night caused the Waiohine River to overflow the stop-bank and the road between Carterton and Greytown became impassable. Settlers' houses at Ahiakouka were surrounded, and paddocks were inundated. At Woodside the river overflowed into the waterrace head works, and flooded a largo area. i WASHOUTS AT PAHIATUA,' ROAD TRAFFIC BLOCKED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] v ;; PAHIATTJA, Saturday. Heavy rain caused.' several washouts. The water is 3ft. deep over the road at Mangarama, and , traffic is blocked at Tano. The chairman and four members of the Tararua Power Board were unable to get to the meeting at Eketahuna owing to washouts. ;
