♦ _ ; COMPETITION BY STATE. [BY telegraph.>-PRKBS association.] WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Dominion Conference of the Drapers' Federation unanimously passed the following resolution:" That representations be made to the Government for the purpose of securing legislation making it mandatory that State and public bodies engaged in enterprises which are in competition with ratepayers shall pay rates and land and income tax in the same manner as if they were private traders; that it shall be obligatory upon the State and public bodies that the annual balance sheet and profit and loss account relating to . each enterprise shall be published; that the Government bo asked to amend the Legislature Act by deleting the provision -requiring shops to observe a half holiday on the day of .the election, and that the provisions of the Act relating to factories be made to apply also to shops." . *' i 1
