BRIDGE AT ORAKEI.
* ",.. ■|: QUESTION OF SAFETY. j The • dangerous state of the Orakei i bridge was recently brought under the 1 notice of the City Council by the Orakei ! Road Board. It requested that repairs ; should be carried out, and that the road [ leading to the bridge on the Auckland i side should be widened. The matter was ] sent on to the Works Committee. i « At last evening's meeting of the coun- ' cil the committee submitted a report ] from the city engineer, Mr. W. E. Bush, , who stated that repairs had recently been \ effected and it was, as far as he knew, i sufficiently strong for light traffic not ex- \ cceding two tons per axle. The widening, and repairing of the road leading to the bridge • was a much larger question, and there were no funds available to carry out this work at present. Urgent repairs to the road would, however, be undertaken. .' : & On the recommendation of the committee the engineer was instructed to effect the necessary repairs and widen the road where required. , ... j
