BOARD AND COMMITTEE.
"AN UNFAIR ATTITUDE." " "■ < APPOINTMENT AND RESIGNATION. " This is not a proper attitude for any j school committee to take, and I do not; like it at all," said the chairman of the| Auckland Education Board, Mr. E. C. Banks, yesterday, in referring to a communication from the Kahepuku (Te Awamutu) School Committee. This committee was recently reported to have resigned in a. body, because the board had not answered its correspondence and had not advised it of -the appointment of a new teacher. Tho assistant secretary, Mr. R. P. J. Bay," stated that the committee had been advised by telegraph of the new appoint- ! ment a week before its resignation, and j he was not aware that any communication remained unanswered. He had asked the committee to reconsider it* decision with j regard to resigning, and had received a reply stating that it could not see its way I , clear to do this until a teacher's residence was provided. ; Members of the board regarded this as a I distinct'change of front. "The grievance ; when they v resigned was supposed,to be because they were not informed of an 'appointment," said Mr. Banks. "Now they are shoving it off on to something j else- I don't think the committee is act-1 in? at all fairly by the board. Committees all over the country are asking for teachers' residences, and we cannot possibly build them all." . ' After further discussion, the matter wag j referred to the executive committee.
