WAGES OF WAIHI MINERS.
STATEMENT FOR THE UNION. [bt telegraph.—-press association.] WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Further correspondence upon the subject of the wages received by the miners at Waihi has passed between the representatives of the miners and the mineowners. The following letter was forwarded by Mr. W. O'Rorke, secretary of the New Zealand Miners' . Federation, to Mr. T. O. Bishop, secretary of the Goldmine Owners' Association:— "In your letter of January 13, you admit that the statements made By the Waihi representatives to Mr. Massey were substantially correct and, - further, that your effort to discredit the same was founded on incorrect information.'' Just where you obtained such information you do not state, but there could be no doubt concerning the spirit of the award from whish you quoted so freely. Obviously your information did not come from Waihi since the mincowners there were quite clear on the question, as evidenced in the message you quoted. The average schoolboy in Waihi knew that the companies -were only paying for 5V days a week,'and clause 2 of the schedule of the Waihi miners' award demonstrates this fact clearly enough. Having admitted that the statements made by the Waihi representatives are correct, I trust you will do the right thing and facilitate the equitable adjustment required by the miners."
