EMPIRE EXHIBITION.
ENGINEERING SECTION. EXTENSION OF SPACE MADE. J [from or/a OWN correspondent.] LONDON. Jan. 4. It is interesting to hear from the British Empire Exhibition authorities that in respect to each of the big engineering industries the exhibition is already an assured success, 16 months before the date of opening. In view of tne large demand for space, has been found necessary to recommend the extension of the Machinery Hall by the addition of 70,000 square feet, order to house the on lire sea and land transport group of exhibits in the extension. This transport grout will include failway and tramway rolling stock aid material, motor-cars, cycles, motor and horse-drawn vehicles, "road material, and sea transport. Provision will oe made for demonstrations of the worn; 155 of tramcars and their brake power. All the mechanical engineering exhibits are being organised by the British Engineers' Association, and the electrical engineering exhibits by the British Electrical ar.d Allied Manufacturers'' Association, while the organisation of exhibits of the motor and cycle industries will probably be undertaken by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders and the British Cycle and Motor-Cycle Manufacturers and Traders' Union, Ltd. The Machinery Hall, when extended, and the already extended Industrial Hall, which originally occupied a combined area of 800,000 sq. ft., will cover 889,415 sq. ft. The two halls stand opposite to each other, east, and west of the Grand Avenue.
