THE NEW ARTS BUILDING. HEATING AND LIGHTING. The Auckland University College Council met yesterday afternoon, the chairman, the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, presiding. There were also present Dr. T. W. Leys, Professors A. P. W. Thomas, H. W. Segar, and 0. W. Egerton, and Messrs. K. Mackenzie, T. U. Wells, J. F. Hosking, and H. J. D. Mahori 4 . The council considered in committee xne method to bo adopted in heating the new arts building and students' hall, and the cost of lighting electrically the same buildings. On resuming in open council a motion by the chairman that the architects be authorised to call tenders for the installation of a hot-water heating system was carried. It was also decided to ask the architects to confer with certain of the tenderers with a, view to seeing how far the price for the lighting system can be reduced without injuring the system. The council also considered in committee a proposal to instal steel casement window frames of English manufacture in the new buildings at an additional cost of £300, and this was subsequently agreed to. The meeting was adjourned until next Monday.
