FEATURES OF THE SALE.
DEMAND FOR CROSSBRED. I [ BENEFIT OF LOCAL DISPOSAL. OVER £300,000 REALISED. Commenting on the sale to a Herald reporter, the president of the Auckland Woolbrokers* Association, Mr. A. W. Perkins, said it was the most satisfactory sale ever held in Auckland. The offerings constituted a record and there had been a great clearance at excellent prices. A specially gratifying feature was that there was such a strong demand for crossbred wool which for some seasons had been practically unsalable, the proportion that did sell during the slump years realising less than the cost of production. The renewed demand for crossbred would mean much to the Auckland Province as the bulk of the wool produced in this district was of that type. The prices realised for pieces, added Mr. Perkins, were exceptionally good. He had never seen a more general demand. Another feature of the sale that should not be overlooked was that the disposal of so much wool locally would mean the circulation at once of a large amount of money among the community. A fair proportion of the, wool sold on Saturday was from growers who previously had shipped direct to London for sale. That meant having to wait for some months before they learned what figure the wool had realised. The local sales were at last coming into their own, the prices realised in the Dominion being in favour of the growers compared with London values. Judging from the- percentage of the offerings disposed of, said Mr. Perkins, without having made a complete estimate of the range of prices, • the total amount realised at the sale should aggregate well-over £300,000. The third and final wool sale of the season, he said, would be held on March 17, and catalogues would close on March 12. In view of the large offerings now coming forward for the local sales growers would find it to their advantage to send in their wool as early as possible.
